🌼Lupin
What it is
Lupin is a legume (related to peanuts) increasingly used as a high-protein, gluten-free flour — one of the 14 EU-regulated allergens, and people allergic to peanuts have a higher risk of also reacting to lupin.
Where it hides
Beyond lupin flour and lupin beans, it turns up in some gluten-free breads and pastries, pasta, and pastry mixes as a protein-boosting ingredient.
Safety note
EU law requires lupin to be declared on packaged food labels whenever it's used as an ingredient, even in small amounts.
