🥜Peanuts
What it is
Peanuts are legumes, not tree nuts, but they're one of the most common and often severe food allergies, and one of the 14 EU-regulated allergens.
Where it hides
Beyond peanut butter and snacks, peanuts (or peanut oil/flour) turn up in sauces (e.g. satay), baked goods, some confectionery, and can cross-contaminate tree-nut products made on shared lines.
Safety note
EU law requires peanuts to be declared on packaged food labels whenever they're used as an ingredient, even in small amounts.
