🥜Tree nuts
What it is
Tree nuts — almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts, cashews, pecans, Brazil nuts, pistachios, macadamia and Queensland nuts — are one of the 14 EU-regulated allergens. A tree-nut allergy is distinct from a peanut allergy (peanuts are a legume), though the two often co-occur.
Where it hides
Beyond obvious nut products, tree nuts turn up in pesto, baked goods, breakfast cereals, chocolate, ice cream, and some cold-pressed oils and liqueurs.
Safety note
EU law requires tree nuts to be declared by name on packaged food labels, even in small amounts.
Not medical advice: Informational only, not medical advice. If you suspect a food allergy, consult a qualified healthcare professional for diagnosis and guidance.
