- 1Rinse masoor dal thoroughly and cook with 3 cups of water and half a teaspoon of turmeric powder in a pressure cooker for 2-3 whistles, or simmer in a pot until soft.
- 2Heat vegetable oil in a separate pan over medium heat, then add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
- 3Add chopped onion and sauté until golden brown, then stir in minced garlic and grated ginger, cooking for another minute.
- 4Add chopped tomato and red chili powder, cooking until the tomato softens and the oil begins to separate.
- 5Pour the cooked dal into the pan with the tempering mixture, stirring well to combine, and simmer for 5 minutes.
